Everything we do happens in person, in Peru, in groups small enough to teach properly.
The structure
What we are
Huachuma Works LLC is wholly owned by the Huachuma Foundation, a 501(c)(3) registered in Arizona. The Foundation works on habitat, propagation and preservation. We are the part of that work that teaches, and the part that travels.
Every dollar of profit this company makes returns to the Foundation. That structure is the reason we can build ten days around teaching and conservation rather than around filling seats, and it is the first thing to check if you want to know what kind of organisation this is.
The reason
Why we teach
Huachuma has been in continuous use in the Andes for about three thousand years, and most of what circulates about it today is one person’s paraphrase of another person’s. Meanwhile the wild plants are being cut faster than they grow back.
Those two facts are connected. A plant that people understand is a plant people protect. So we teach the history, the science, the cultivation and the ceremonial practice together, to small groups, in the place where the plant grows, and we put everybody’s hands in the ground while they are there.
Preservation
The Huachuma Sanctuary
The Foundation’s conservation project in Peru: habitat for mature plants and propagation of new ones, so that the medicine people travel for is still there in thirty years.
Every group visits, is taught what is growing and why it matters, and plants. It is the part of the ten days that outlives the ten days.
The people
Who runs this
Hamid Jabbar founded Huachuma Works and teaches on every group.
Music came first. He went to NYU on a scholarship and it is still how he thinks, in phrases and intervals. Law came next, a degree at UCLA and several years practising in Los Angeles. Then yoga and meditation, practised since 2005 and taught since 2013, and huachuma and the people who hold it in Peru since 2017.
The law degree earns its keep more often than people expect. It shapes how he reads a study, how he thinks about what a practitioner may honestly claim, and where the line sits between guidance and diagnosis. It is also why this company is built the way it is: owned by the Foundation, operating only in Peru, and reviewing health and medication in writing before it takes a deposit.
He founded the Huachuma Foundation and serves as its director. The conservation work every group visits is the Foundation’s, and the profits of this company return to it.

The ceremonies themselves are held by a Peruvian guide with more than twenty years of practice, who works with groups of nine at most.
